Large, beautiful lawns of grass bring beauty to any area, but they can cost the environment greatly, aside for monetary expenses. Lots of fuel must be used for lawn mowers, lawns consume lots of water, and there are toxic emissions, among other concerns. There are many excellent alternatives to grass that will provide a beautiful garden or lawn without using natural grass.

Groundcovers are plants which spread across the soil, but do not grow high. They can be used as a form of mulch, and they are usually chosen for texture, density, and how well they prevent weeds. Unlike grass, these plants require little or no maintenance. Common forms of groundcover are flowers such as perennials and evergreens, and edible forms, such as strawberries.

Rubber mulch is excellent for permanent walkways, pathways, and driveways. It is also used around plants. Landscape mulch is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and is commonly used in backyards and playgrounds. Rubber mulch comes in numerous colors to fit and enhance any landscaping design. Because of its synthetic nature, the rubber surfacing also needs little or no maintenance, resulting in no cost to the environment. In fact, it is made out of recycled tires, benefitting the environment.

Ornamental grass comes in many forms, and is synthetically produced. The grass is drought resistant, and requires little maintenance, utilizing a lot less fertilizer and water. Ornamental grass looks exactly like naturally grown grass, with less cost to the environment.

Rubber mulch is one of many excellent alternatives that can keep lawns beautiful, easily maintainable, and eco friendly.

Playgrounds are meant for children to play in and enjoy, but that doesn’t mean that they have to be eyesores. There are companies devoted to designing the most aesthetically pleasing playgrounds for the area, as well as providing the best that playground equipment has to offer.

The first step for any playground is the purchase of rubber mulch. Rather than the wood chips or blacktop of old, rubber mulch is the playground flooring of the future. Constructed from recycled rubber, the chips are made to resemble wood, with an extra shock absorbing quality that makes them the best option for playground safety. Unlike wood, rubber mulch also does not freeze in the winter, maintaining a cushiony softness that is the perfect texture for children’s antics.

From a design perspective, the playground flooring comes in a variety of colors, including green, orange, rust, and many more. Rubber mulch is also odor free, and is non-staining and non-abrasive. The color does not fade over time, maintaining a healthy, vibrant look. It is important to coordinate the color of the rubber mulch with the surrounding fence of the play area, if there is one, and its relation to the rest of the playground gear. Depending on the area, it may be a good idea to cordon off one section of the playground with rubber mulch, and landscape the rest with grass, or vice versa.

Playground equipment is constantly being improved, with more creative ways for children to play, and innovative designs that keep the equipment pleasing to the eye. The options are endless, with jungle gyms in futuristic designs and color codes to match any design specifications. There are playground sets that also come with thematic elements, boasting a wood look, futuristic appeal, and much more. It is important to take into account the wishes of the children who will actually use the playground in question.

If this is an option, it is always nice to design the playground in tandem with the surroundings, taking into account the landscaping. Bushes and natural hedges are a classic way of encircling the play area, with rubber mulch surrounding the center jungle gym.

The options when designing a playground are endless, and as a considerable investment, it’s worth taking the time to do thorough research. Rubber mulch is a staple in any playground, and then the rest will follow.

Recycling of rubber is done to produce rubberrecycle content which have relatively lesser pollutants in them and are Eco friendly in every sense. Decomposition of rubber is a process which takes around a hundred years. Rubber from tires is made to be recycled and create more durable consumer goods from the resultant material.

Recycled rubber in addition with bitumen can be used for surfacing the roads. There is a scientific reason behind it. Such kind of surfacing reduces the traffic noise up to thirty percent. Such roads are apt to be used in hot weather regions as these roads can bear high temperature.

Garden mulch surfaces made up of rubberrecycled contents are appropriate for the systematic development of a small garden in your backyard. You can get mulch trees, flowers and even shrubs made of rubber recycle mulch content on reasonable prices. Rubber recycle content never decomposes and thus reduces the maintenance time and expenditure too. These surfaces of rubber are odorless and minimize dust to get accumulated on it.

Recycled rubber mulch surface safeguards the soil laid over it, from the hot sun-rays during the summers and from frosts in winter. The rubber is water resistant thus the rain water thrown on it will be bypassed by it without affecting the soil quality. These recycled rubber garden surfaces are available in a wide range depending upon the make and width of the sheets available in different colors variations.

Having a green garden is everybody’s dream. It is always great to be in a fresh environment.
By having a green garden, you will have a great atmosphere around you.

Here are some commonly asked questions about using rubber mulch in landscaping. The best part of using rubber mulch is it’s clean, not dirty like bark or soil. Some have tried to discredit rubber mulch as a good choice to use in your yard.

Rubber Mulch protects soil by insulating it all year round. It’s ideal now before the ground freezes to protect tree roots and plants.

In growing season, rubber mulch keeps weeds out. Weeds can germinate in wood mulch but cannot grow in rubber. This makes your job easier.

Rubber Mulch is made of 100% tire rubber, and will never decompose or crumble.

How about cost compared to other landscaping material? In the long run, Rubber Mulch will save you money. After an initial investment that may be more costly than wood mulch, Rubber Mulch will never need to be replaced for a lifetime.

Rubber mulch is ideal for landscaping.

It might be difficult to maintain a good, clean and green garden. You need to water your garden regularly and keep it free from pests and weeds. We all know that maintaining a good garden needs lots and lots of hard work but it is not so any more.

By using rubber mulch, you can have your gardens free from pests and weeds. Rubber mulch is also useful for landscape and gardening. It is one of the best ways to keep your garden area safe from drastic climatic conditions.

Rubber mulch is made up of recycled tires. This mulch is also used on playground surfaces which reduces the possibility of accidents.

Rubber mulch on playground surfaces, act as a shock absorbent that keeps your kids safe while they are playing on them. Rubber mulch is just perfect for all hard surfaces. It remains as it is in all climatic conditions. Heavy rains cannot wash it away and storms cannot blow it off. Thus, rubber mulch is also used for landscapes.

Rubber mulch is superb for gardening. It does not attract insects and also need less maintenance. By using rubber mulch, it becomes easy for you to maintain a real green grass lawn for a longer period of time. Rubber mulch is easy to install and easy to use. It is available in various attractive colors that make it perfect for all surfaces.

Children like playing on colorful surfaces installed with rubber mulch. Rubber mulch is affordable and is easily available at Rubberecycle

Did you know that you can use newspapers as a weed barriers in gardens.

Yes, it is safe to use newspapers as a weed barrier in your garden. The ink used today is soy-based as long as it’s not the full color ads. In fact, newspaper works great as a weed barrier.

Here’s how:

1. Make sure soil is moist before putting down newspaper.

2. Lay several sheets (or a small section) down on your garden

3. Apply a thick layer of mulch on top.

The newspaper will prevent weeds from sprouting and will slowly break down to add organic matter to the soil. Another way to prevent weeds is to use rubber mulch in your garden. You can choose what color to use to go with your landscaping.

Here’s what Russ Horrocks of Langhorne, PA says about using rubber mulch for his garden:

“It never fades, and there’s no maintenance. We water with less frequency now, but best of all, it keeps the weeds down. If we ever have to make the choice again, we would definitely choose Landscape™ Rubber Mulch.”

Can gardening improve your mood? Some say it does. It’s called Horticulture therapy and its been used to help people in all sorts of situations — from prisons to care centers.

“It’s true that gardening may help reduce stress and enhance well being. Gardening (and gardens) can be a retreat, a haven and a source of comfort and renewal. It can help whether you are dealing with the stress of everyday life or a traumatic event or illness.”

Here are the ways gardens can be helpful for breaking depression, lifing your mood, or helping you feel more optimistic.

If you live alone – like many elderly do – you may need someone or something to take care of. Plants respond to care – they grow. In the case of growing vegetables you also get a reward for your work – healthy food to eat. This can help you feel competent and useful. It can also be very satisfying to be part of the process of starting from a seed and watching something grow into food.

It might be from being outdoors or maybe it’s the work but gardening can help relieve feelings of anxiety and anger. Sometimes it’s just the feeling of something bigger than yourself that helps. Gardening in groups are a good way to build community and the exercise is also benefitial.

My uncle finds a lot of satisfaction helping with his local community garden. It brings refugee families together to become more self-sufficient and strengthen ties. It helps him feel needed and that he’s doing something good. All these things are helpful and I can’t help but think of how just being unplugged from TV, iPods, the computer and everything else we have running is good. It causes us to slow down and be in the moment. It can be healing.

“Several small studies suggest that hospital patients who either had access to scenic views or gardens or had plants and flowers in their rooms recovered from surgery more quickly and have less pain and anxiety than those without such access.”

If you’re not sure where to start, look for gardening clubs or register for training through your government extension service.

I’ve heard so much about the Wall o’ Water product from gardeners recently. Now that it’s Spring we can’t wait to get started. This weekend I planted my peas, lettuce, and beans. You’ll see from the picture that I love getting fresh tomatoes from the garden.

I haven’t even thought about tomatoes but if you have, here’s a tip: use wall o’ water.

As the name suggests, these clear plastic tubes are filled with water. They collect heat during the day, and then release it at night. Wall o’waters can protect tomatoes on nights as cold as 16 degrees. With this you’ll be able to harvest tomatoes 4 to 6 weeks earlier.

A 3-pack is about $10 at major retailers or make your own (see http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/lab/msg0516363918431.html)

Happy gardening!
